By using the Vinea iOS app or this website, you agree to these terms. We've tried to keep them short and free of legalese — but they are a contract, so read them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. Who we are
"Vinea" refers to the iOS app and the website at vineacellar.com (collectively, "we," "us"). "You" means the person using the app or visiting the site.
2. Eligibility
You must be of legal drinking age in your jurisdiction (21+ in the United States; varies elsewhere). Vinea is not directed at, and not appropriate for, anyone under that age.
3. Your license to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Vinea on devices you own or control, for non-commercial home-winemaking and -vineyard tracking. You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except where applicable law expressly permits
- Resell, sublicense, or rent access to the app or your subscription
- Use Vinea to build a competing product
- Abuse the AI assistant or gateway (e.g., automated scripted requests, attempts to extract training data, or any use that interferes with normal operation)
- Use the app for commercial winemaking operations beyond home / hobbyist scale — Vinea isn't designed for or licensed to commercial wineries
4. Subscriptions and billing
Vinea Pro is an auto-renewing annual subscription sold through Apple's App Store. The current price is shown on the in-app paywall. By subscribing, you agree to:
- Auto-renewal. Your subscription renews automatically each year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges your payment method on file at the start of each new period.
- Cancellation. Cancel any time in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Vinea. Cancellation stops the next renewal; you keep Pro features until the current period ends.
- Refunds. Refund requests are handled by Apple, not by us. File requests at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Price changes. If we change the renewal price, Apple will notify you and require your consent before the next renewal. You can decline by canceling.
Apple's standard EULA for App Store apps also applies to your use of Vinea, in addition to these terms.
5. The AI assistant — informational, not professional advice
Vinea AI is an automated tool that produces suggestions based on the data in your batch. It is not a substitute for your own judgment, professional enology advice, or food-safety expertise. Don't follow Vinea AI suggestions blindly when health or safety is on the line.
Specifically:
- Vinea AI may be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Always cross-check important decisions with a trusted source (textbook, forum, or a professional winemaker).
- If a wine has signs of contamination, microbial spoilage, or anything that smells, looks, or tastes off, do not consume it. The AI cannot reliably diagnose food-safety problems from a batch summary.
- Vinea is not a medical device, lab instrument, or licensed enology service. Do not use it to make decisions about commercial production, regulatory compliance, or anything where failure has consequences beyond your own home batch.
6. Your data
Your cellar and vineyard records live in your private iCloud database via Apple's CloudKit. We don't have access to them. See our Privacy Policy for the full data story.
You are responsible for backing up data you care about. The in-app Settings tab includes JSON and CSV export — use it. We are not liable for data loss caused by iCloud issues, device loss, or app uninstallation.
7. Service availability
We aim to keep the app and AI gateway available, but we can't promise uptime. Maintenance, third-party outages (Apple, Cloudflare, Anthropic), or acts of God may interrupt service from time to time. The app's local features keep working offline; AI features require a network connection and a valid Pro subscription.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
Vinea is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all such warranties.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to Vinea is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Pro subscription in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) US$50. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost wine, lost vintages, lost equipment, or any disappointment you suffer because a batch didn't turn out.
Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations. Where that's the case, the limitations apply only to the extent permitted.
10. Termination
You can stop using Vinea at any time by canceling your subscription and uninstalling the app. We may terminate your access if you materially breach these terms (e.g., you abuse the AI gateway or use the app in violation of section 3), with or without notice.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a material way, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top, and surface a notice in the app the next time you launch it. Continuing to use Vinea after a change means you accept the new terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
